[Solved] WideFs Not Working After Install of FSUIPC 7.5.6

This doesn't make sense...

uninstalled the new version of FSUIPC from the remote pc

But why is this installed there anyway? That is where WideClient runs. If WideClient is running, you cannot run FSUIPC7. And you cannot actually install FSUIPC7 on a PC that does not contain MSFS.

and deleted Widefs

Why?

Installed the previous version of FSUIPC (7.5.5)

On the remote or client PC?

and restored the older Widefs file from the recycle bin.

What file? The one you just deleted? So you deleted and then restored it?

I did add the servername and protocol entries you suggested to the Widefs.ini file.

I think it is this what fixed your issue...

The new version of FSUIPC (7.5.6) remains on the FS PC, but as I said, Widefs is now connecting on the remote PC as before.

So you didn't touch FSUIPC7 on the server PC?

So all you did was something to FSUIPC7 on the client PC, which is never used anyway.

All you needed to do was add the servername and protocol entries.

Thank you. The first thing I did when I received your initial response
was to add Servername and Protocol to the Widefs.ini file as
suggested. The client pc still would not connect to the FS Pc. So I
tried to recreate the setup I had used without difficulty for several
years.

I thought I had read in the install instructions that FSUIPC needed to
be installed on the client PC even tho MSFS does not reside on the
client PC. Obviously incorrect.

Anyway it now works so I am happy.

Thanks again for your help.

You can run FSUIPC7 on a client PC if you like. However it is not needed, and is a (free) alternative to using WideFS.
Running FSUIPC7 on a client PC is different than using WideFS / WideClient. It is a separate instance, with its own offset area, and does not communicate to FSUIPC7 running on the server PC, as WideClient does.
You can use either WideClient or FSUIPC7 on a client PC, but not both.
