Not needed, but you can if you want to. When you get to the registration page of the installer, the fields/details on that page will be populated from the key file if present. But you then overwrite these with your purchased key anyway.

When you add your key details, press the Register button and the key file will be updated.

Note that if your key does not validate. you probably will need to update your VC++ redistibutables. See the Installation and Registration manual for details (section Invalid Key Problems).
