FSUIPC does not connect to SimConnect in MSFS2020

Hi there,

the current FSUIPC Version 7.5.6 does not establish a connection to SimConnect after loading MSFS properly with an aircraft at any airport.
I found this problem in connection with our pirep tool which depends on information delivered by FSUIPC to this app. One thing is the UTC - Flight Sim time which now is always 00:00:00 instead of the UTC _ Real World.

Meanwhile I found a workaround to get the UTC time but this was not necessary before:

Opening the FSUIPC wiondow / open MSFS / disconnect from SIM / Reconnect SIM.

After that the connection gets established and I get the SIM time.

I ask you to have a look at it and provide a fix. The necessary files (fsuip.log and fsuipc.ini) are attached.

There has been no changes in 7.5.6 related to the SimConnect connection, an in fact there has been no changes in this area for quite a while. However, I have had several reports of this same issue in the past week.

The problems seemed to be caused by a sudden increase in the start-up time of MSFS, which can vary depending upon their servers. You log file shows that FSUIPC7 is trying to connect many times and eventually fails.

What you need to do is tune the connection start-up parameters of FSUIPC7. To do this, please see the following FAQ entry:

https://fsuipc.com/community/fsuipc-faq-issues/fsuipc7-configuring-connection-parameters-for-optimal-use-and-to-prevent-simconnect-issues/

Also see the section Auto-tuning of initial start-up ini parameters  in the Advanced User guide.
Basically what you need to do is to time the period between FSUIPC7 starting (when you see the splash screen) and MSFS arriving at the first menu, and set the DetectToConnectDelayAuto ini parameter accordingly.

There does seem to be an issue in that FSUIPC7 stops trying to connect after a certain amount of tries (10 in your case) which shouldn't happen, so I will look into this, but you need to tune the DetectToConnectDelayAuto inj parameter so that it establishes a connection on the first (or maybe second attempt).

If you have many add-ons being started from your EXE.xml file, you can also maybe move the FSUIPC7 entry up so that it is started first.

Before you adjust the DetectToConnectDelayAuto  ini parameter, could you add the following to the [General] section of your FSUIPC7.ini file:

TestOptions=x800

and show me / attach another log file showing your issue. This will help me to determine why the last connection attempt failed to time-out.

The parameter DetectToConnectDelayAuto is set with a standard value of 60. So I did not change it.

But you need to - please see that FAQ entry on how to do this. FSUIPC7 can auto-tune this parameter (see the section in the Advanced User guide that I referenced), but it can only do this if it actually obtains a connection. In your case, it is not getting a connection and so you must first tune this manually.

I set the requested line "TestOptions=x800" and attached the new log file.

Ok, thanks - you can remove that now.

You can also increase the InitialStallTime parameter to allow more time before a re-connection attempt is made - try a value of 30. If / when the DetectToConnectDelayAuto is set correctly, you could set this to 0 which will disable the time-out of the connection attempt(s). However, this can cause issues if the initial connection attempt never results in receiving a valid connection, so do this with caution.

You should also increase the MaxClients parameter in your SimConnect.xml file to 128 if you have not done this already - it is located in your AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator folder. Set this for all connections.

Hello John,

thanks.

I set the InitialStallTime to 30

I set the MaxClients parameter in the SimConnect.xml file to 128 for all connections.

I set back the DetectToConnectDelayAuto to 60

I started FS2020 again with the beta EXE you sent me.

Now I had a simconnect connection as the UTC - FS time was displayed in the pirep tool.

Regards, Bodo

@bodom But you still get a lot of re-connection attempts as well as a data stall. It looks like your MSFS is taking a long time to start up (> 5mins!). You should use a value of 330 for your  DetectToConnectDelayAuto parameter to start without re-connection attempts, and possibly higher to prevent data stalling. However, as a couple of re-connection attempts are not really an issue, you could use a lower value (200-300), but I certainly would increase it from 60.

Cheers,

John

There is also a minor issue in that FSUIPC7 tries to open a separate simconnect connection for AI traffic even when it failed to get its main connection. In the attached beta, I have changed to only get the AI connection once the main connection is obtained. This should also help, so please try this version.
